Day of Life #6

Today Madeline is 6 days old. She's come a long way since day one. Today is the second day of her being warm and stable. All her vitals have been very good. EEG has shown no seizures since her arrival and today it was disconnected and the lead wires were removed. She also had one of the two lines removed from her naval. We're very pleased with how comfortable she looks, she has actually cried a few times yesterday evening and today, so that is very positive, she's been sucking on a binky very well and her gag reflex is also very good, that said, she got her first bottle of mother's milk today. It was only about a tablespoon and she sucked it down very quickly. They will continue to monitor her ability to eat and will slowly increase volume and eventually let mom breast feed.

The most exciting part is we were finally able to hold her today! Thanks again all for your support and prayers, they are very much appreciated and seems to be working well. We still have a long road to go down, MRI is scheduled for Tuesday and we'll continue to have to monitor her neurological development for a long while.

More later!

  4. Reading your words brings tears to my eyes, as I see how much stronger Madeline is growing every day. And there is such an expression of joy in her tiny face. Know that I and your fellow comrades at MHS are carrying her (and mom and dad) in our thoughts and prayers, cheering you on. She has quite a fan club for someone so young!

  5. Wow, I can't help but cry. My husband lectured me on reading more of this because of the pain it brings back for me. My son was born 15 weeks prematurely, spent 3 months in the NICU. He was 2 weeks old before I was able to hold him. He had IVs, tubes, bandages, was intubated and fully incubated. Here's a link to the beginning of our story. We were blessed with a complete recovery. Today he is 9 months old, weighs just over 16 pounds, and is the strongest person I know still. I am praying for your little girl, and for you and your husband to have the strength and grace you need. Miracles are amazing!
