Well it's been a while since an update so we will try to make this brief and to the point!
Madeline did end up being released following our last post on that Saturday (our post was Wednesday). She had a great day at Parade the Circle Festival in University Circle following her discharge. She really loved all the colors, music, displays and people! She also loved being able to visit with her aunt and uncle!
The next day she had a rough day (Sunday) and had to go to the ER for a bolus of fluid to rehydrate her.
The next day (Monday) She went back to the ER but was all good this time.
The rest of the week she did well with close monitoring from Doctor's and consistent evening rounds of straight pedialyte to keep her hydrated.
the following Saturday (16th) she had a rough patch of puking at the mall but nothing we were too concerned about- Sunday she did ok but started having Diarrhea worse than normal -and by Monday she had a miserable day at the Babysitters.
After work trip to the ER landed her admitted again (She was running a fever which was something new and concerning), and after a blood culture she tested positive for staff infection in her medaport line. The poor dear! Monday night they gave her a dose of vancomyacin (antibiotic)- well unfortunately in the midst of mom running back to the house to get some personal items- it was missed that she was dosed with this and we were not able to remind the Doctor's that Madeline had a bad reaction last time to the vancomyacin. So at midnight when Madeline got settled in her room it turns out she was up most of the night scratching all over he head and flush red and fever returned. Two doses of benadryl could hardly help- what a sad little sight she was. Needless to say she took a LOOOONG nap the next day!
Fortunately, she has bounced back pretty quick and is happy as usual but she needs to stay on antibiotics (now switched to something that she does not have a reaction to) for 7 more days.
Still no report on when we will get to go to the motility clinic in Columbus. Hoping to have a call into their office soon to get something locked down. Still looking forward to hearing some potential answers for her puking issues there. Here is a sneak peak at why we are interested in this hospital, click on description below for more info about the motility clinic :
"Families travel from across the country to meet Carlo Di Lorenzo, MD, one of the world’s premier experts in pediatric gastrointestinal motility disorders and the chief of the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at Nationwide Children's Hospital. Dr. Di Lorenzo and his colleague, Dr. Hayat Mousa, specialize in the evaluation and management of previously unexplained causes of pediatric gastrointestinal dysmotility."
We are really hopeful to get some answers soon!
Remind us again about the big upcoming birthday plans? I know you said you don't want anything but if people "surprise" you or Maddie with a gift what would you like/need? Gas money, etc? Praying for you always.
