Late Post today- We went to church and then came straight back to see Madeline so we did not have a chance to post yet.
It was nice to get back to church and have some special time with God. It was very encouraging. Sorry to all our church family that we were not able to stop and catch up but we really wanted to get back and be with Madeline as we had not seen her yet. One of the songs we sang at church today really stuck in my mind - especially the one verse "There's no strength, but yours to help me stand, and it's pouring in to me." -How true that is!
Madeline was moved into a bigger bed today- it's funny to see her in such a big bed! They also said she likes this little toy that makes music next to her bed-The nurse told us we could bring her in a cd- so we may do that soon.
She is still getting her feeds through the ng tube mostly- they do not want us to try a bottle for every feed because they don't want her to have an oral aversion/associate feeding with something negative.
They are going to try the breast again at 3 (Now) we will see what happens.
Creatinine is a little higher today but not much. Speech specialist comes tomorrow- they will also do a test tomorrow that allows them to look at her throat and see what's going on with that - hopefully they can figure out why she will not swallow.
Update on Adalee- She had some beginning signs of infection in her Pic line so they are removing and installing a new one as we speak- pray for that to go well! Also pray for continued bowel functioning/improvement and that they could increase her feeds. She seems to be doing ok with 1 cc .. but even more would be great! Pray for her mom too as she is not feeling well today and having high blood pressure
Thanks everyone!~
Praying so very much there is soon an answer to why Madeline cannot swallow!
ReplyDeleteMusic is so soothing, she knows already how to communicate her likes/dislikes which is a good sign!
Keep the faith! God is listening!!
Hugs,
Just wanted to say that breastfeeding is very tricky at times under the best of circumstances. It took me at least 6 weeks of daily feeding with a "typical" situation to get the hang of it with my first. We did quite a lot of pumping and bottle feeding and it was a lot of work. This is not that uncommon with first babies because both mom and baby have to figure out what they're doing! So don't be discouraged, it is actually quite normal to struggle. And she WILL get it, just like my baby did, eventually. Keep trying, call people who know what they're doing to help, be skin-to-skin with her whenever you can. It will come. :)
