Day of Life #28

Today is a good day! Praise the Lord!

Madeline has been making improvements. Yesterday we tried breastfeeding again using a nipple shield (which is a rubber covering that is used to make the baby think they are sucking on a pacifier since she takes that better)- She seemed to do well with that- she took it for about 10 minutes and got a little bit out.

This morning the speech therapist came and worked with her on the bottle and she magically took it!She didn't demonstrate any of the issues she had been in the past few days. She took about 22 cc's, we put the rest through her NG tube, and then we tried her on breast a little bit. Using the breast shield she did feed for about 5 minutes. The Dr's and nurses say we can try breast feeding every time. They are going to give her a medicine called nystatin after her feedings to clear up any fungal growths that may be in her throat/esophagus.

Her creatinine was also down from 4.7 to 4.43 which is encouraging! It needs to go down to below 1 to be normal. Her BUN was up to 21 from 20 however.

The Dr's say she still needs to keep her catheter in a few more days and be on her blood pressure medicine longer but they will try to wean her off if it gets better.

The line on her hand where she was receiving her blood pressure medication has now been removed because for the 4th time her hand is swelling up (even after switching hands twice). The swelling can be a sign of an infiltrated line. So for now they will run the blood pressure medicine through the broviac line in her chest. They did not do this before because the medicine is not compatible with the lipids she was receiving. However, they have stopped her lipids for today and will give her the meds through the broviac line for now. We just have to keep an eye on that.

Dad had to go back into work today- Pray for strength for him as he must return to the office and be away from Madeline all day. We are keeping him posted through pics and txts!

Update on Adalee: They were able to put in the PIC Line successfully- yay! She may possibly be getting a little more milk every few hours now- We will check with mom and dad when we see them today. Pray that she can eventually be well enough and come spend time at home with her mom and dad. Her bowels could use some love too! Her parents are going to send us a pic soon to share with everyone -hopefully you can visualize her while you pray for her!

Thanks God, for all the blessings, love and support. Thanks Everyone for being with us through this difficult time!
