Day of Life #32

It is a new day! And hopefully will prove to be even better than before-

Last night was pretty rough - from 3 pm on Madeline was very upset/crying. She was not able to take any more feeds orally for the rest of the day because she was so upset/would not take them.

It seems that she will only calm if she is laying on her stomach, laying on our chest, or sitting up, folded over and having us pat on her back. We notice she is always clenching her stomach like she is in pain .So far the Dr's don't have a good explanation of why this could be. Some have said she may just be a colicky baby or perhaps gas. I have asked a few times if I should stop the dairy but at this point in time they don't think that is a factor. I think I may cut down a little though- couldn't hurt!

Overnight she was pretty cranky but she did take 20 cc of milk for the nurse at 6 am, at 9 am she took 15 cc of milk , at 12 pm she slept through her feeding and at 3 30pm she took 22 cc from the speech therapist. So compared to yesterday that is big progress!

Her feeding amount has also been increased to 55cc's of breast milk every 3 hrs.

She seems to be in a much better mood today- we think partially due to the fact we found out she loves this bouncy/vibrating chair (see pic!) last night it seemed to be the only thing that calmed her down. I also heard that the nurse gave her her Madeline doll and she hugged it and went to sleep! Wish we had a picture of that!

Right now she is sitting with dad making menacing faces- but we are good with that as long as she is not crying!

The Dr plans on changing her current blood pressure medicine to another one that she will take orally, that will happen over the next day or so.

She also had her cathater removed today- HOORAY!

They are also giving her some glycerin to help loosen up some stool as her stools have not been very big.

Overall I would say we are making good progress!!

Thank you God for all the progress we have had today and for continued support from all of our friends/family/etc.

Adalee: Two days ago they were hoping to take her off the nasal canulator which means she would be able to breathe on her own. The last two days unfortunately they were not able to take her off and had to increase her liter flow. Pray that they would be able to decrease the liter flow and take her off the canulator. The Dr's would also like to see Adalee grow more and have suggested to mom and dad that she be given some similac with mom's breast milk. This is a tough decision for mom and dad as Similac contains corn syrup, and they are not to keen on having her intake this as a high percentage of corn in the US is GMO (Genetically Modified Organism)- this corn has been altered using genetic engineering techniques. Mom and dad do not necessarily feel comfortable with this as there have been numerous studies that show not very good results of eating food/food products made with GMO's. Pray that mom and dad would be able to make the best decision for their baby. I know that must be hard- we don't want Madeline on any kind of processed nutrition either!

Everett- Ron ran into Everett's mom today and she said he is having a much better day today! The prayers must be helping-praise God! Not sure what happened/has happened since but we do know they changed his antibiotics and he is doing much better. Thank you Jesus. Keep the prayers up!

Thanks again to everyone for everything you have done for us. We have really truly been amazed by your kindness to us! It has been wonderful!

The other day our friend Amanda set us an account up at www.takethemameal.com where if anyone feels led to bring us a meal this site is a way to 'sign up' for a day to bring a meal. This will also tell you what other days have already been taken. The only info you need is our last name: Sommer and password:1234. Thank you all so much for all the food you have already brought and shared with us. It has been a great blessing to us!!! Thanks Amanda for setting this up. We really have a great support system we are so lucky!

Take care and God Bless!

  1. That vibrating seat is key for peaceful moments. I used to put my son on the kitchen table in that seat and he would stare at the ceiling fan. So glad to hear that Maddie likes hers too.
