Day of life #41

SO...
Madeline gained 10 grams last night! We are so happy- Now she still needs to/should be gaining 25-30g per day but we feel like at least this is a step in the right direction! Prayer warriors must have been hard at work last night :) We are so thankful to God for this small but encouraging improvement!

They also weaned her a little bit on her IV blood pressure med (nicardipine) and they increased her enderol (one of the oral meds). She seems to be maintaining ok so far so that is good!

Milk production is eh- the trend today is looking like 60 cc's, 80cc's, 70 cc's , 50cc's -the last time i pumped I even did the hand expressions and I did not get much more out. So far I am taking mother's milk tea, fenugreek 3 x a day, i just had a packet of some ginger drink that is supposed to help- and these are the results so far. Maybe I need more time.. I just started all of this. I guess it is better than 40cc but I would like to produce enough for her for 1 feeding each time I pump. Speaking of feedings she is doing pretty good- our biggest issue is her falling asleep during feedings which stops her from getting a full feed. But at her 3 pm feed she took her whole 80 oz today and she did it in about 20 minutes and seemed to be hungry for more. Hopefully this will continue and lead to her getting the NG tube out.

Just to let everyone know as a few of you have asked us - we are looking forward to having visitors as you are interested/we are available. I guess we never really said one way or the other for a while now - but we are definitely welcoming visitors!

Adalee update- Mom and dad did decide to start fortifying the breast milk last night and Adalee gained 10g overnight- I guess Madeline and Adalee are in competition for 'biggest weight gainer' - ;) Let's hope they both continue to grow!

Hoping to speak to Everett's mom soon for an update- Keep up the prayers all.

Thank you God for this wonderful blessing today.

  1. Any good news is...GREAT news! So happy to hear Madeline is showing improvements!
Good for Adalee! Keep going little one!
Still praying for all including Everett!
Once you hold Madeline for every feeding in your arms, I am sure your milk supply will rise...that's Nature for you!
    God be with you always,

  2. Hi Rachel! You don't know me, but my husband and I go to Gateway Downtown. I've been following along with little Maddie's blog, and am so encouraged to see how much God's been working in her life so far! I wanted to extend a bit of help in the nursing/milk production department, if you'd like it. I work as a labor/birth doula, and offer lactation assistance to my clients (and have a few years under my belt so far :)), and I would be glad to pass some tips and/or local resources on to you as far as ways to increase your supply/any other issues you're having. If you'd like to drop me an e-mail, it's emiliedoula-at-g-mail-dot-com.
