Day of Life #43

Not too much to report today- She only gained 5 grams last night :( Not what we were hoping for but still a step in the right direction!

The doctors are going to give her even more vegetable oil today (yucky)- But we will see if it helps her grow- I believe 5 cc's 2 times a day - 9 am and 9 pm- If they decide to increase the vegetable oil anymore they will have to start mixing the carbohydrates in- something about it being too much fats, not balanced out or something like that.

Her BP started climbing up this morning, 115 then 135 and 147 at noon- we are nervous about that- hoping it will go back down at her next check (1pm).

She keeps falling asleep during her feedings despite our best attempts to wake her- They will not be satisfied until she is taking the full 80cc's by mouth at every feed. The Dr. did briefly mention to us today that she could go home with the NG tube but that they would have to train us how to deal with it. There is risk associated with this as she can grab it and pull it out, or pull it halfway out and choke herself. So it would be preferable that she takes the entire bottle. If she does not get the full 80 cc's while at home at each feeding she could go 'dry' - and we would end up back in ER or NICU. Pray that she can start staying awake long enough to take her feeds!

Breast milk production is so so- was up to about 70cc at 10 am, back down to 40 at 12 15.. .hoping things will get better soon.. not sure what else to do- they may prescribe a drug called reglin for me that helps gut motility in infants but works for moms needing breastmilk.

Update on Everett- Checked in with his mom last night- pray for this family! He is still on the ventilator and they would really like to see him get off that. He is on the core pack which is a feeding tube that bypasses stomach and goes straight into intestines. He is still puking a little bit some bile like substances- Mom stays at the hospital 24/7 and dad is working and taking care of Everett's brother. I am sure mom and Dad miss being together as a family and I'm sure the time apart is stressful on everyone. Pray hard for this lovely family.

Update on Adalee: Haven't seen her parents yet but will get update soon- her weight is maintaining- Same the last few days- pray that she gains...

Thanks for everything -

  1. As always thank you for the updates and praying Madeline keeps trying. Just a question though...babies eat on the need to basis in my mind and if she sleeps, why wake her up and push her? And Mum, have you join a group of other breastfeeding mothers (a good support for you in stressful times as this and lots of advices...)?
    Hugs,
